The Safety of Transportation APPS

The times they are a changing! Within the last couple years, new transportation apps have started to become more popular. You see apps like Uber, Lyft and Sidecar everywhere you go; magazines, the internet, even referenced on TV. But this begs the question....how safe are these apps?

One thing that most consumers are not aware of is that anyone, literally any Tom, Dick or Harry, can sign up to be a "driver" for one of these apps. Citizens are allowed to sign up for these apps as "drivers" without even showing proof of a business license, commercial insurance, not having a valid "for hire" license or even what type of driving record they have! Most consumers don't know they are not getting a professional chauffeur and that it is not a transportation company responding to their requests for a ride. So far, apps like Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar have been deemed illegal in New York, served cease and desist orders in many major cities such as Chicago, LA, San Francisco and the state of Virginia for violating licensing regulations. Many cities such as Miami, San Antonio, and Pittsburgh are holding undercover stings to catch drivers operating from Uber and Lyft, impounding their cars immediately and slapping them with high fines. It's the same in every city, these ride sharing apps are not legal and not following state regulations.
