Mining is what kept the town alive and booming for several years, until the mines closed in the 1950’s. Today, the population is a little over 400. Efforts to save the town have been successful by making it a tourist attraction. The town was even featured on the Food Network.

The town has been turned into a trendy and chic place to visit. You can visit the historical district, haunted hotels or take a haunted tour, mine museums, or one of the many wineries. One popular winery is Club 433, where they make their own wine, have tasting rooms and even a wine club. If you’re not that into wine, they also offer bottled micro-brews. Want to try another hip winery, then a visit to Caduceus Cellars Tasting Room is a must. This husband and wife team makes Italian and Spanish varieties of wines and produces almost 5,000 cases a year! There are many more wineries to visit in Jerome, these are just a few.
